Pamela Andrews is an Australian soprano whose work spans opera, concert repertoire, art song and contemporary Australian music. An experienced and versatile performer, she has appeared with many of Australia’s leading opera companies, orchestras and ensembles, including Opera Australia, West Australian Opera, Melbourne Opera, The Metropolitan Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra, Penrith Symphony Orchestra, the National Capital Orchestra and Hobart Chamber Orchestra.

Pamela’s operatic roles include Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), Arminda (La finta giardiniera), Annina (La traviata), Belinda and Second Woman (Dido and Aeneas), and Natasha in The Gondoliers Dream Getaway. She has extensive professional ensemble experience, including numerous seasons with Opera Australia across repertoire ranging from Mozart and Verdi to Wagner, Puccini and contemporary opera. She has also performed with Melbourne Opera and, since relocating to Western Australia, with West Australian Opera and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

As a concert soloist, Pamela has performed major works including Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Handel’s Messiah and Dvořák’s Stabat Mater. She has a particular interest in art song and in championing Australian repertoire, and has premiered works by Australian composers including Paul Smith, Geoffrey Lancaster, Graeme Leak, Matthew Dewey, Joe Bugden, Johanna van Tienen, Sophie Joo and Haomin Wei.

Alongside her performing career, Pamela is an experienced arts manager with a strong interest in creating opportunities for artists and bringing imaginative classical music projects to audiences. She is a Founding Board Member of Operantics and remains a passionate contributor to the company’s work, which has encompassed opera and concert projects ranging from Mozart and Salieri to Kurt Weill and Australian art song. She has also served as an adjudicator for Sydney Eisteddfod.

Pamela is also an experienced singing teacher and vocal educator. She has taught for more than a decade as a peripatetic singing teacher in private schools in Sydney and Hobart, alongside maintaining her own private teaching studio for many years. Her teaching is informed by extensive professional performance experience and encompasses vocal technique, musicianship, repertoire and performance skills.

Pamela holds a Master of Music from the Australian National University, a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the University of Tasmania, and a Master of Arts and Entertainment Management from the Australian Institute of Music.

Now based in Perth, Pamela continues to perform in opera and concert repertoire while developing projects that celebrate song, storytelling and Australian musical voices.
